If you’ve seen this already skip to my commentary at the bottom. ITV News reported this today:
Motorway police were called to reports of a woman being assaulted in a car, only to find two ‘zombies’ on their way to an acting job.
A shocked passerby rang 999 on Sunday evening after seeing a ‘man biting a lady and assaulting her’ on the M62.
Traffic patrols were scrambled out at 6pm to find the car in question near junction 11 at Birchwood / Warrington.
But when they pulled the car over, it turned out to be two people wearing zombie make-up on their way to work as extras on a job.
She said the pair were happy to have their picture taken as it was such a bizarre incident. North West Motorway Police tweeted: “Report of female being assaulted on M62, vehicle stopped pair of extras making to a job – posing as Zombies – takes all sorts.”
Does anyone else have some questions about this? Here’s the part I keep getting stuck on. The report wasn’t “Two people covered in blood seen driving down the motorway” it was reported that the woman was being bitten and assaulted. Did the two of them pull off to the side of the road to practise? I find that unlikely, plus if they had, couldn’t the police have arrested them for causing a disturbance?
Much as I’d love to play zombies in public without notifying the authorities, I’d know that someone would think it was real and call the cops. If it was determined I had done on purpose to freak people out, then I’d expect to be arrested. These people however got away with a photo.
If they didn’t actually put on a little zombie show, and instead were just two people driving, who did the 999 caller see instead? Is it possible that the fact that these two were in full zombie makeup while driving to their gig as extras was just a coincidence? If so, what happened to the woman that was really bitten and assaulted?
Are we seeing the start of a real zombie outbreak that was improperly investigated due to the coincidental presence of Zombie actors on the same stretch of road? Or is my imagination getting the better of me? Subscribe to this blog for more Zombie news, wild conjecture and all sorts of geekery. 🙂
